Lufkin Independent School District serves more than 8,300 students. With more than 590 teachers across 18 campuses, Lufkin ISD has a student-teacher ratio of 14.15. Lufkin ISD’s attendance and graduation rates are consistently above the state average, and in the 2015-2016 Texas Academic Standard Report Lufkin High School received distinction designations in Academic Achievement in Mathematics; Top 25 Percent: Student Progress; Top 25 Percent: Closing Performance Gaps; and Postsecondary Readiness.

Lufkin ISD partners with Angelina College and Stephen F. Austin State University to offer dual-credit courses in English, finite math, history and college algebra. Lufkin High School offers a college transition service called the Go Center that helps students explore careers, register for entrance exams, research and apply for scholarships, complete financial aid forms and conduct job searches. With the help of the Go Center, Lufkin ISD has had a success rate of 98% accepted into college.

Lufkin High School student-athletes compete in football, basketball, baseball, softball, soccer, volleyball, powerlifting, swimming, tennis, golf, cross country and track. Lufkin teams won state titles in football in 2001 (5A) and soccer in 2015 (6A). The Lufkin High School Panther Band won the 2014 5A Military state marching title at the NAMMB Military State Marching Contest.

Lufkin ISD passed a bond measure in 2018 for $75,000,000 to build a new middle school, high school multi-purpose facility and high school athletic facilities
