City of Lufkin Economic Development Corporation
In February 2004, City of Lufkin voters approved reallocating one-eighth of one percentage point of locally-collected sales tax into an economic development fund. An estimated $740,000 was diverted to the fund in the 2004-05 fiscal year and today the annual 4B sales tax averages approximately $1 million. With oversight by the Lufkin City Council, the Economic Development Corp. Board works to determine how those funds will be spent. The mission of the Economic Development Corporation is to stimulate the growth and expansion of our existing industry base and to conduct an aggressive national recruitment effort aimed at attracting new industry and quality jobs to the City of Lufkin and Angelina County.
During the January 5, 2005 City Council meeting, City Manager Paul Parker announced that Jim Wehmeier had been selected as the Director of the newly established Economic Development Department .
The services the Corporation provides include:
Assistance with the City of Lufkin development approval process and
Angelina County/Lufkin Economic Development investment opportunities.
